BRANCH: Electrical and Electronics Engineering

CUT OFF:

Initially Company has set the Category cut off viz., SC/ST- 5.5,OBC -6.5, GEN-7.0(i badly remember it).but there was another CGPA cut off for shortlisting out from the applicants, for EE SC/ST it was 6.5 and Mech SC/ST it was 6.0 (decision was completely taken by company). Shortlisted candidates were called for Document Verification on previous day of the Interviews, a BIO-DATA form is given to fill up (includes projects, AOI, extracurricular activities) & for Interviews your form will be sent to the panel. Interview will be based on the details you fill up in the form.
 

RECRUITMENT PROCESS/INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

FIRST ROUND :- (Group Discussion+Group Task)-nearly 15 minutes, the lady over there is not from HR Dept. & she gave everyone a chance to speak she also ensured that no one have quarrelled, So non-talkative also actively participated in it. 
 
SECOND ROUND :- (Tech + HR, a panel of 5 members are there), they are starting with tell me about yourself and poking questions if your native place is famous. Next up Technical and to be frank if you are making the very 1st question wrong they hardly goes for the second( your luck) and usual HR questions. It also doesn’t mean that if you are clearing all the questions You are in again it depends on vacancy (which PC’s and HR’s wont reveal and u shouldn’t ask).

BRANCH: Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

RECRUITMENT PROCESS/INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

First students were shortlisted based on CGPA from each categories(Gen, OBC, SC, ST) and there was no written test.
In the second round there was a GD and GT. This process was non-eliminatory but there were some point for each round. GD round was the best GD I have ever experienced. Everyone has given equal opportunities to speak out. GD topic for my group was “impact of social media”. In the GT round groups of 3 member each were formed and every group were given a problem statement and they have to come up with the solution. The third round was personal interview. The interview last for 25 minutes for me. They asked questions based on my projects, basic metallurgy questions, and some questions related to IOCl. It would be better if you have brief knowledge of IOCL before you go for the interview.

BRANCH:Mechanical Engineering

RECRUITMENT PROCESS/INTERVIEW QUESTIONS OF IOCL:

1. Students were shortlisted from different categories on basis of CGPA.

2. Document Verification: We were to produce self attested photocopies of 10-12th marksheets, BTech grade cards and category certificate for students belonging to OBC, ST, SC, PWD and EWS along with their original documents. 

3.GD followed by GT.Though they were non elimination round ,one had to carry a minimum marks for Selection.
 
4.After completing group activities ,we were called for personal interview which were held for approx 20 minutes by a panel of four to five people.Previous projects had to be explained and technical questions mainly from fluid dynamics,heat transfer were asked .Some Questions regarding company’s project ,refinery processes were also asked.
 

Last but not the least they asked some common HR questions (Tell about yourself, family background,Why do you want to join IOCL etc).

YOUR WAY OF PREPARATION FOR MECHNICAL STUDENTS:

Be aware of current affairs. Do practice Group tasks and discussions. Prepare well to be able to explain your projects. Be attentive during PPT and try to ask some relevant questions. Be confident while answering questions during interview. Since, CGPA is the criterion for shortlisting the students, so try to keep your pointer above 8. preparing for GATE which helped me answering technical questions. Going through my projects and read out company’s plants, refinery processes and ongoing projects.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS/INTERVIEW QUESTIONS OF IOCL:

First round : Resume based shortlist (Generally pointer based). Keep a decent pointer above 8.5 for clearing this. 

Second round : GD (group discussion) and GT (group task). Try to make yourself stand out of the crowd by putting forth a point completely different from what’s being discussed (related to the topic ofc). 

Third round :Technical interview. Make sure to have basic understanding of everything learnt in previous years (mugging up equations not needed). Reason everything right and you’re good to go.

BRANCH: CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

RECRUITMENT PROCESS/INTERVIEW QUESTIONS OF IOCL:

1st round was Group Discussion , topic o f discussion was ” How ethical is test tube babies ?”. Two general topics were given out of which one was finalized based on majority. Everyome one was hiven enough chance to speak in the GD 2nd round was personal interview. Candidates were asked to fill a biodata form which had questions about our project work, area of interest etc.. Most of the questions came from biodata form. Have an overall idea of Refinery flow diagram and basic terms used in petroleum industry . Combined mark of GD and interview was considered for selection.GD was not an elimination round.
